Maiduguri Flood: FG Launches Manhunt for 281 Escaped Inmates, Recaptures 7

The Federal Government has confirmed the recapture of seven inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Maiduguri, Borno State, following a flood disaster last week. Authorities have revealed the identities of 281 inmates still at large and launched an intensive manhunt for them.

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar, disclosed the details in a statement on Sunday. The flooding severely damaged the prison walls and staff quarters, leading to the inmates' escape.

“After evacuating inmates to a safe facility, 281 were found missing,” Abubakar said. “The service holds detailed information, including biometrics, on the escapees, which is now available to the public.”

A joint effort with other security agencies has been activated, with covert and overt operations underway to recapture the remaining inmates. Abubakar assured the public that safety is not compromised as authorities continue efforts to bring the escapees back into custody.
