'No Specific Timeline Yet for Oronsaye Report Implementation', - Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila
The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has disclosed that there is no definitive timeline for the implementation of the much-anticipated Steve Oronsaye Report. He made this revelation on Tuesday during a visit to the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) headquarters in Abuja.
Amid growing concerns that the report's implementation has stalled, Mr. Gbajabiamila reassured Nigerians that the Federal Government is committed to executing the recommendations properly. "Oronsaye’s Report is being worked upon," he said. "Yes, we’ve been talking about this for months now, but anything worth doing is worth doing properly."
He further explained that the complexity of the reforms proposed in the report requires meticulous planning and noted that a dedicated committee has been established to review and finalise the necessary details.
Though no specific timeline was provided, Mr. Gbajabiamila assured that implementation would commence soon, emphasizing that thoroughness would not be compromised for speed. "I can't give an exact timeline, but soon... We don't want to sacrifice thoroughness on the altar of anxiety," he stated.
The Oronsaye Report, which proposes a significant overhaul of Nigeria's public service, has been a subject of debate since its submission, and its implementation is seen as critical to enhancing efficiency and reducing the cost of governance in the country.
