President Tinubu Commissions 462 New ASPs, Urges Integrity and Human Rights Respect

In a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria's security apparatus, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, commissioned 462 new Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano. The ceremony, which marked the culmination of five years of rigorous training, was a moment of pride and responsibility for the newly inducted officers.

In his address, President Tinubu expressed deep confidence in the capabilities of the new officers, urging them to perform their duties with the highest levels of integrity, professionalism, and respect for human rights. "As you step into this noble profession, remember that your role is not just about enforcing the law, but about serving the people of Nigeria with honor and respect," he stated.

The President reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering support for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), emphasizing the importance of their mission in maintaining law and order across the nation. "We will continue to support the Nigeria Police Force in its mission to safeguard the lives and property of all Nigerians, while also ensuring that the welfare and professional development of its personnel remain a top priority," he added.

The commissioning ceremony also highlighted the ongoing reforms within Nigeria's security architecture, with President Tinubu expressing his belief that the newly commissioned ASPs would play a crucial role in enhancing the effectiveness of the police force.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., also spoke at the event, acknowledging the President’s commitment to police reformation. "We deeply appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering support in our ongoing efforts to reform the police force. Our goal is to leave behind a reformed and well-positioned Police Force that all Nigerians can be proud of," he said.

The IGP lauded the new ASPs for their dedication, discipline, and commitment throughout their training at the academy. He noted that their education was comprehensive, blending academic studies with practical, hands-on training to ensure they are well-prepared for the challenges ahead. "The bedrock of effective policing is discipline. Your success as Police Officers will be determined by the quality of your character, your discipline, and your professionalism," IGP Egbetokun emphasized.

As the newly commissioned ASPs prepare to begin their service, the nation watches with hope and expectation, trusting that these young officers will uphold the values instilled in them and contribute positively to the safety and security of Nigeria.
