WHY CHIEF AJURI NGELALE STEPS DOWN AS PRESIDENT’s SPOKESPERSON

Why Chief Ajuri Ngelale Steps Down as President Tinubu’s Spokesperson

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, has announced his decision to step down from his role as President Bola Tinubu’s chief spokesman on private grounds.

This was revealed in a letter he submitted to the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, on Friday.

In the letter, Ngelale cited pressing medical issues within his immediate family as the reason for his indefinite leave of absence. He expressed his deep regret over the decision, noting the demands of his position and the ongoing responsibilities of the state.

"On Friday, I submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff to the President, informing my office that I am proceeding on an indefinite leave of absence to frontally deal with medical matters presently affecting my immediate, nuclear family," Ngelale stated.

He further elaborated that the decision, though difficult, was made after extensive consultations with his family as the health situation at home has worsened. Ngelale, who also serves as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen, emphasized that the situation required his full attention.

"I look forward to returning to full-time national service when time, healing, and fate permit. I respectfully ask for some privacy for my family and I during this time,” Ngelale appealed.

His departure leaves a significant gap in the administration’s media and publicity operations, as he played a crucial role in shaping and communicating the president’s message.

The presidency has yet to announce a replacement or interim arrangement for Ngelale’s duties during his absence.
